Mental Wellness for Black Communities Fund

Mental Wellness for Black Communities

This Giving Tuesday we’re launching a new campaign centered on improving mental health in Black communities.

Systemic racism leaves scars that run deep, but together, we can begin to heal. This Giving Tuesday, your support can provide culturally-relevant mental health therapy for individuals in the Black community who face emotional challenges due to discrimination. Your donation can help someone find peace, strength, and hope.

  • £60 could sponsor one therapy session
  • £360 could sponsors six sessions, providing sustained, life-changing support.
  • Collectively, this campaign could fund up to 30 culturally-relevant therapy sessions, helping to improve the mental health of those who are challenging discrimination in a legal case.

Black women are disproportionately re-traumatized by interactions with public services, including mental health and policing. Between April and June 2017, 457 incidents of sexual assault were reported in UK mental health settings, with Black women being significantly impacted.

Black men, meanwhile, face barriers to accessing early intervention mental health care and are more likely to encounter services through the criminal justice system or crisis settings.

Despite higher prevalence of mental health challenges, Black adults in the UK have the lowest treatment rates of any ethnic group, with only 6% receiving care, compared to 13% of White British individuals.

Your generosity creates more than just access to therapy—it fosters resilience, empowerment, and healing for those navigating the emotional toll of systemic racism. Join us in making mental wellness accessible to all.

BEO is not a therapy service provider, as such, will not be liable for any situation that may arise from the sessions. The donation is aimed to fund therapy sessions for members of Black communities, and services will be delivered by culturally competent therapy service providers after due-diligence has been completed.

The fund is here to support those making challenges against race discrimination. If you are going through a court or Tribunal appearance, you may fit the criteria to be considered for therapy. Applications to receive therapy will be open in the New Year, or once our fundraising target is reached.
