BEO’s statement on racist incident at Desborough College

BY BEO | 28/06/2023

Further to the racist incident that happened on 16th June to a student at Desborough College, our CEO has said:

“Following the recent racist abuse of one of the students at Desborough College, we have been in contact with the family to offer support.

Black Equity Organisation firmly believes that racism has no place in educational institutions and we stand in solidarity with the affected student and their family, demanding that Desborough College takes decisive steps to ensure such incidents are prevented in the future and that the necessary support is provided to those impacted.

As a result, Black Equity Organisation has today sent a letter to Desborough College. The letter expresses our concern at the incident and asks for clarification on the processes in place to address such incidents as it is our understanding, this was not the first incident.

We’ve also asked for additional detail about what Pioneer Trust, who run the school, will be doing to support the school in addressing racism.

We eagerly anticipate Desborough College’s response and action on this matter, recognising the importance of timely and meaningful engagement to foster a positive and inclusive school environment.

When we receive a response, we will work with partners and the family to ensure that any further incidents are dealt with in a proper manner.”
