Understanding the Reason for Exclusion

  • What specific behaviour or incident led to the exclusion?
  • Can you provide documented evidence (reports, witness statements, or incident logs) supporting this decision?
  • Has my child received warnings or support before this decision was made?
  • How long has the school been concerned about this behaviour?

School Policies and Procedures

  • Which school rules or policies are you saying my child violated?
  • Was the exclusion consistent with the school’s disciplinary policy?
  • Are there any alternatives to exclusion outlined in the policy, and were they considered?
  • How does the school ensure fairness and consistency in applying exclusions?

Impact on the Child

  • How will this exclusion affect my child’s learning and academic progress?
  • What measures are in place to support my child academically during the exclusion?
  • Will this exclusion affect future school records or references?
  • How will the school support my child emotionally during this period?

Process and Rights

  • How long is the exclusion, and when does it start/end?
  • Can we appeal this decision, and what is the procedure?
  • Will there be a meeting to review the exclusion?
  • Who can we contact if we disagree with the school’s decision?

  • Review the school’s exclusion policy carefully.
  • Make sure you understand the specific reasons for the exclusion.
  • Ask for copies of any reports or evidence the school is relying on
  • Request work from teachers to keep up with lessons during the exclusion.
  • Set a structured daily routine for study at home.
  • Attend any meetings regarding the exclusion.
  • Ask for clarification about reintegration plans and expectations when your child returns.
  • Keep communication polite, professional, and documented to strengthen your case if needed later.
  • Discuss strategies for your child to successfully return to school.
  • Identify any triggers for behaviour and ways to manage them.
  • Work with the school to implement supportive measures like mentoring, counselling, or adjusted timetables
